Honeywell Thermostat Display Not Working

When the display screen of a Honeywell thermostat is not working, there can be three possible scenarios: either the screen goes completely blank, or some of the numbers/info goes missing, or the numbers are displayed but they are not readable format. This might be due to a technical fault, dead batteries, any wiring issues, etc. Let’s discuss them in detail for a better understanding.

Reasons why the display isn’t working: –

Low Brightness Display

It’s not always the case that the display has gone faulty. Sometimes the thermostat reacts according to the lighting indoors. In case of bright light in the room, it can adjust itself to low brightness mode for the power saving purpose. So, check properly if that might be the case.

Old Batteries

This is the first thing that comes to our mind after seeing a device stop working. Try replacing the batteries with new ones of desired capacity as per required by the model type. Usually, AA or AAA alkaline batteries or 3V lithium batteries are considered good.

Improperly Closed Access Door

Incomplete closing of the access/furnace door on the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system could be one of the main reasons for the blank screen. Because the system switch only turns on after proper contact of the door with the furnace pane.

Broken Circuit

The fuse wire, provided in every electric circuit meter of a house, might be burnt due to excessive load & heat that ultimately leads to the breaking of the circuit.

Safety Switch Turned off

A safety switch is provided in electrical appliances like AC & Heaters to protect the users from any accidents and unfavorable situations. It turns off automatically and stops the running appliance if there is a possibility of damage or fault.

What to do to solve the issue & make the display work again?

Replace the batteries

This is the easiest solution and comes as a first-aid handy way to make the device work again.

Check the door

As already discussed above, one can open and try reclosing the furnace door again to check that the power has been cut it.

If the above two solutions didn’t work then, the problem is technical for sure.

Call the electrician

One can call an electrician to check the wirings of your house’s electric circuit and whether there is an issue with them or with the fuse wire or your appliances. Once it is fixed, try restarting the thermostat.

Contact Customer Support

If there is no problem with the wirings then, contact the support team of Honeywell and after listening to the problems they will suggest whether the problem will be trouble-shoot by their solutions or they have to send a thermostat technician to detect the device.

Buy a new device

If nothing works for you then, replacing your old thermostat with a new one is the ultimate remedy. If the device is in the warranty period, a new one can be requested from the company but, if it is older than 10 years, it’s better to replace and buy a new one. Usually, the shelf life of a thermostat lies around 10-15 years.

Go to the official website of Honeywell products i. e.  www. honeywellhome. com. Scroll down the page, and an option named “Technical Support with my products” will be found somewhere on the home page. After clicking on the above option, select the tab “thermostats” from the 4 options. It will redirect to the option “my device isn’t working”. Click it. Enter the type and model no. of the thermostat. Many trouble-shooting ways will be suggested based on the problem. One can live chat with customer care and can make a call. A technician will be sent to your house if needed based on the complexity of the problem.

There can be many reasons for the malfunctioning of the thermostat display. The problem doesn’t need to be because of the fault in the thermostat device. Try solving the problem on your own by applying handy and easy solutions like resetting the device or changing the batteries, and many more. If it doesn’t work call the customer service of the company (Honeywell) or can request a technician. Buying a new device is the last solution if nothing works for you.
